Recently, workmen came to clear the overgrown trees in my neighborhood. Overgrown trees can crowd younger plants, slowing their growth. By clearing these trees, more space is created for other plants to grow. This also helps the economy by creating jobs in forestry and landscaping sectors. For the society, overgrown trees can block roads, powerlines and buildings. Clearing them can reduce these risks and makes the area safer for everyone.
I am privileged to have been a part of the HEARTSS community project. It was such a meaningful experience for me. As we shared and transplanted plants with the elderly, I realized how something as simple as greenery could bring life and joy to their spaces, making a small but real impact on the environment. We also decorated recycled water bottles with them for the plants, which brought smiles to their faces and cheered them up in the most beautiful way. It reminded me how important it is to nurture not just the earth but also the people around us. Socially, it was heartwarming to see their faces light up, knowing that someone cared. And while this wasn’t a business, it still had an economic impact, as encouraging gardening and reusing materials can help reduce costs and promote sustainable living. This experience really brought all three pillars of sustainability to life all wrapped in the love and service that HEARTSS stands for.
